DIRECTOR of the DIVISION OF EXTRAMURAL RESEARCH

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), a research component of the NIH and the DHHS, seeks an outstanding scientist to lead its Division of Extramural Research (DER), located at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Director, DER, leads and directs the Institute’s extramural research program encompassing developmental biology and mammalian genetics; epithelial cell regulation and transformation; pharmacogenetics; mineralized tissue and salivary gland physiology and injury; molecular and cellular neuroscience; oral microbiology and microbial pathogenesis; immunology and immunotherapy; AIDS and oral manifestations of immunosuppression; biomaterials; tissue engineering and regenerative medicine; health disparities; behavioral and social sciences; and clinical research focusing on improving the dental, oral, and craniofacial health of the nation.

The Director, DER, reports to the Director, NIDCR; oversees/manages an extramural research program portfolio of about $300 million and a staff of 28 scientist administrators and other science professionals who serve in four branches that encompass a full spectrum of basic, clinical, translational and population-based research.

Applicants must have an D.D.S./D.M.D., M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a biomedical or related field and possess excellent knowledge of the advanced principles, theories and practices in one or more scientific areas of dental, oral, and craniofacial science; a distinguished track record of experience in these fields; demonstrated leadership and broad visionary capabilities; and demonstrated management acumen.
