Chair, Division of Periodontology

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks applicants for a full-time position as Chair of the Division of Periodontology at the rank of professor with tenure. Tenure appointments require candidates to possess an established record of research, scholarly works, teaching excellence, and professional service.
The periodontology chair is responsible for the administration and leadership of the division; strategic curriculum planning; resource management; development of junior faculty; oversight of the residency and graduate clinic; pre-doctoral didactic and clinical curricula; scheduling management; and evaluation of staff and faculty. Other duties include supporting the overall mission of the division, participating in university and college governance, contributing to the college’s continuing education and alumni affairs programs, and practicing in the college’s affiliated intramural Dental Faculty Practice.

The Division of Periodontology’s research-related endeavors include peri-implant wound healing, treatment outcomes following guided bone regeneration, periodontal health during pregnancy, and periodontal-systemic interactions.

As an R1 research-intensive university with seven health science colleges on its campus, Ohio State provides the optimum environment for the College of Dentistry to meet is tripartite mission of education, research, and service. Comprised of ten divisions, the college also supports nine advanced education programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, including residency training programs in general practice and dental anesthesiology.

Candidates must have a DDS/DMD degree or international equivalent degree, and be eligible for a regular or limited teaching license by the Ohio State Dental Board (dental.ohio.gov/Licensure/Dentist). The successful candidate will also have an international reputation as a scholar with a record of funding; knowledge of innovative teaching and learning strategies in periodontal education; an appreciation for the benefits that diversity brings to an academic environment; and evidence of engagement in organized periodontology. Preference will be given to candidates with certification by the American Board of Periodontology, advanced degree(s), experience in teaching and clinical practice, involvement in the accreditation process, and administrative experience with a demonstrated record of recruitment and retention of faculty.

Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various educational, research, and service-related communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.
