Job Overview: Dentists remove tooth decay, fill cavities, and repair fractured teeth. Dentists diagnose and treat problems with patients’ teeth, gums, and related parts of the mouth. They provide advice and instruction on taking care of the teeth and gums and on diet choices that affect oral health.
Essential Functions Include But are Not Limited to:
- Meets with patients to discuss and treat dental concerns.
- Performs regular cleanings and other preventative procedures, while establishing a plan for better dental hygiene.
- Performs dental procedures, such as extractions, root canals, and fills cavities.
- Corrects bite issues and overcrowding.
- Applies helpful agents to teeth, such as sealants or whiteners.
- Prescribes medications for dental problems, such as pain medications or antibiotics.
- Provides clients sedatives or anesthesia prior to administering treatments.
- Orders diagnostic measures, such as x-rays, models, etc.
- Utilizes tools, such as drills, probes, brushes, or mirrors, to examine and treat teeth and mouth.
- Maintains records relating to the oral health of patients and the treatments given to them.
- Manages and communicates with other staff members to provide care to patients.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong computer skills and experience with healthcare databases and applications.
- Willingness to comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding dental and health care.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to keep detailed records.
- Comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, tools, and diagnostics.
- Good management skills.
Education/Certification/Licensure:
- Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine.
- State license and malpractice insurance
