Department of Microbial Pathogenesis
The University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Dentistry is searching for a full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis. We are seeking outstanding scientists integrating the research areas of experimental and/or functional genomics, bioinformatics, and systems biology, with a focus on host-pathogen interactions in the context of the human and animal model microbiomes. We are mainly focused on recruiting highly collaborative faculty who will complement and expand our existing strengths and high-throughput data needs within the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis.
Candidates with expertise in human enteric and/or respiratory pathogens with a focus on virulence, antimicrobial, and/or evolutionary mechanisms are preferred. Faculty positions within the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Department of Microbial Pathogenesis will contribute to ongoing collaborations with the exceptionally strong microbial groups at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Departments of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and the Institute for Genome Sciences. Faculty candidates will contribute to our collaborative community by embracing excellence and diversity, with a solid commitment to teaching and mentoring at multiple academic levels (dental hygienists, dental students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows).
Essential Qualifications: All applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree. Candidates must have a documented track record of mentoring at the PhD and MD/PhD levels. In addition, applicants must have a strong record of research productivity, demonstrate the ability to develop a rigorous research program, and be committed to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels within the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry and Department of Microbial Pathogenesis. The strongest candidates will demonstrate a track record of leadership of large federally funded projects, extensive institutional and outside academic service, and successful mentoring outcomes.
