Dental Public Health Faculty

Department of Dental Public Health
Faculty Position

The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is conducting a search for a Dental Public Health faculty position (DPHP) for our school in Baltimore. This position requires the candidate to complete a Dental Public Health Residency with an emphasis on oral health research and have the credentials to obtain a license to practice dentistry in the State of Maryland.

The DPHP must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they can support a successful and innovative education and scholarship program. The ideal candidate will firmly commit to community engagement, population health, interdisciplinary care, and a willingness to engage with other faculty to cultivate an environment that promotes personalized oral health and multidisciplinary research to help overcome disparities and inequalities in oral health.

The DPHP will also work independently and collaboratively with UMSOD faculty to identify and apply for appropriate federal, state, and foundation funding opportunities to support the clinic, school, and campus mission. Experience in clinical care, clinical teaching, and mentoring in a community health care setting and/or a dental education environment are highly preferred. Experience in and engaging in research or support of research at NIH or some equivalent Federal Government position is also highly preferred.

The DPHP will also be expected to provide clinical dental health services and supervise UMSOD dental and dental hygiene students. The DPHP will also have clinic responsibilities that include delivering care in an urgent care clinic (extractions, etc.). As such, the DPHP should be sufficiently trained to mentor and assist students with complicated and sometimes difficult emergency treatment procedures.

Hiring range: $140,000 – $160,000 per year (depending on rank and commensurate with education and experience).
