Bowie, MD – The National Dental Association (NDA) Board of Trustees is proud to announce the appointment of Marcus Ware, J.D., a non-profit leader who has served as interim Executive Director for the last four months, as the next leader of the 112-year-old organization. With extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and fostering opportunities for individuals from historically marginalized communities, Mr. Ware is well-equipped to lead the NDA in advancing oral health equity and promoting diversity within the dental profession.
Mr. Ware brings over a decade of expertise in nonprofit management and higher education leadership, having held roles at nationally recognized organizations such as the United Negro College Fund and the Aspen Institute. Early in his career, he served on both the board and staff at Howard University, and has worked with several D.C.-based organizations, including Generation Hope and The George Washington University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Juris Doctor from Howard University. In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Ware is actively involved in civic and community service, serving as Vice Chair of the Board for Joan’s House, Inc., and on the board of the Jeremiah Program – Baltimore as well as Thrive Scholars’ National Law Advisory Board.

Marcus brings not only a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience but also an unmatched enthusiasm, energy, and innovative vision that will propel the NDA forward in its mission to advance oral health equity.
Having had the privilege of watching Marcus grow and mature through his college and law school experiences, I have witnessed firsthand his dedication, strategic thinking, and passion for service. His ability to merge legal expertise with a deep understanding of healthcare policy and advocacy uniquely positions him to drive meaningful change within our organization and the communities we serve.
Marcus’ leadership, thus far, has ushered in a new era of progress for the NDA, one defined by fresh ideas, expanded partnerships, and dynamic approaches to addressing disparities in oral healthcare. His commitment to excellence and his forward-thinking mindset will be instrumental in strengthening our impact and empowering the next generation of dental professionals.
