Job Function

To provide primary administrative management and leadership for Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs in collaboration with faculty, staff and other divisional administrators consistent with established college and campus policies and procedures. Recommends campus policy and procedure. Collaborates and coordinates operations with other College units, departments and divisions, and curriculum on all campuses in the assigned area. The Associate Dean is expected to exhibit initiative, enthusiasm and teamwork in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, initiating, implementing, evaluating and revising a broad range of Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting courses, programs, and instructional techniques in collaboration with faculty
  • Responsible for curriculum development, evaluation and revision
  • Responsible for faculty recruitment, assignments and supervision
  • Establish outcomes, procedures, timeliness, and performance criteria for short and long-term planning related to academic programs and administration.
  • Insure the utilization of diverse, active advisory committees for Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs.
  • Foster and nurture relationships and serve as a liaison with employers.
  • Select, recommend and evaluate full time and adjunct faculty and staff in accord with College policies and provisions of labor.
  • Encourage and promote in-service training and professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Participate in budget development and monitors budget.
  • Responsible for assessing, planning and operating program facilities
  • Meet with students to discuss problems or complaints and assists in devising equitable responses and solutions.
  • Function as the management link between the faculty in the unit and the Dean’s office.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of faculty, courses, and facilities.
  • Achieve understanding of and implements all appropriate labor contract provisions and personnel policies.
  • Participate periodically in the negotiation of employee group master agreements.
  • Provide leadership and support to assigned departments and faculty for program related activities i.e., student organizations, forums, contests.
  • Encourage and support articulation with K-12, universities, and other educational agencies.
  • Assure an interdisciplinary coordination of programs and foster curriculum integration throughout the Continuum of Learning
  • Evaluate program success through follow-up studies of graduates and other data provided by Institutional Research and other measures of student success.
  • Serve on College, local, state, and national committees and represent the Dean as appropriate.
  • Develop and recommend criteria for student placement within the instructional program.
  • Assist, where appropriate, in the planning and development of educational specifications for physical facilities for new construction and/or remodeling.
  • Develop and administer clinical affiliation and other partnership contracts to grow clinic patient service opportunities.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with College policies, procedures, and contracts as well as appropriate state, federal, accreditation, licensure, registration and/or certification requirements of the Health and Human Services programs.
  • Coordination, evaluation and participation in determining admission to professional track of the program
  • Assist with evening and week end supervision of programs, clerical staff, and faculty.
  • Administer grants where appropriate.
  • Support cooperative education opportunities for students.
  • Foster a climate of customer satisfaction both internally and externally
  • Foster, nurture, and support new program development
  • Maintain unit reports and records including appropriate department inventory records.
  • Assist in maintenance and security of unit supplies, equipment and facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

Must be a dental hygienist who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and possesses a master’s degree or higher or a dentist who has background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program goals

Qualifications

At least three years administrative experience, Dental clinic and or Dental educational program is preferred, including knowledge of preparation of self-studies for accrediting bodies and experience in accrediting activities with regulatory agencies. Commitment to community college concept.
